I am so passionate about arena football that I made the trip from Indianapolis to Chicago 10 times in 2012 -- once for Media Day and nine more times for every home Rush game. Many of those games resulted in me getting home at 2 a.m. or later. I also went to New Orleans in August for ArenaBowl XXV between the Philadelphia Soul and the Arizona Rattlers.
In summary: I love arena football.
Yahoo! Sports was kind enough to bring their arena football section out of mothballs after three years and allow me to publish articles about the 2012 season there. As you might imagine, the page views were bleak -- I'd be lucky to crack 100 on any particular article -- but it meant a lot to me that the sport I love so much was getting some mainstream exposure through Yahoo! Sports.
So when I published an article on March 21, 2012, previewing a Thursday night game between the Rush and the Orlando Predators, I expected the usual handful of page views.
I am still absolutely baffled as to how and why this article garnered 68,822 page views in 2012! That's over 21,000 more page views than my No. 4 performer of the year! Throughout the 2012 AFL season, I had several other seemingly random arena football articles rack up huge numbers of page views -- and despite my best efforts, I never figured out the method to the madness -- but this preview of the Rush-Preds game was king of them all.
