That's exactly the case with my second-best performing article of 2012.
When I published this article on April 30, 2012, the NFL Draft had just concluded, and my hometown Indianapolis Colts had just signed some undrafted free agents.
Basically, all I did was list the new signings and then talk a little about TE Dominique Jones, who had spent some time in the Indoor Football League before hooking up with the Colts. I published the article because the signing of undrafted free agents often goes unnoticed and because I saw it as an opportunity to plug indoor football (I take every opportunity I can to bring arena and indoor football into mainstream consciousness). It didn't take long at all to write the article, and once it was published, I didn't give it much more thought...
...until it racked up a staggering 114,986 page views.
It became, at the time, my all-time best-performing article, eclipsing my previous best effort by more than 46,000 views. I was floored. I still am.
My No. 2 article of 2012:
